UHPA Testimony Supports Governor’s Right to Appoint Board of Education

SB 8, introduced by Senator Tokuda, would ensure that the Governor appoints members of the Board of Education with the Senate’s advice and consent. UHPA believes this legislation best represents the voters’ wishes when they passed a Constitutional Amendment granting the Governor the right of appointment.

UHPA’s Campaign Approach Yields Positive Results

UHPA members have good reason to celebrate over last night’s General Election results. The overwhelming majority of candidates endorsed by UHPA won, and involved some hard-won battles, particularly the governor’s race and two legislative races involving incumbents Rep. Jessica Wooley and Rep. Karl Rhoads. Rep. Wooley represents Laie, Hauula, Punaluu, Kahana, Kaaawa, Waikane, Kahaluu, Ahuimanu and Kaneohe and Rep. Rhoads represents Palama, Downtown, Chinatown and Sheridan.

Hawaii Alliance for Retired Americans (HARA) Legislative Review

The Hawaii Alliance for Retired Americans (HARA) and Kokua Council will jointly host the fourth annual Legislative Review, affectionately known as "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," on Thursday, May 27, at the Hawaii State Capitol, Room 325, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
